Ok, how nuts is it that Second Life has exceeded 7 million members. When I first found Second Life I only had the ability to talk about just passing 6 million, and now about 3 months later it is at 7,000,000.

I guess it makes sense, I just read in E-Week Magazine that Xerox has recently joined the Online World of Second Life unveiling a pretty spectacular presense.

It seems there is no end to the Second Life virtual world and what it can do for real businesses in the world marketplace.

It is the most exciting thing I have seen since the beginning of the Internet!

I think just as interesting as the Total number of residents, well ok, I will just give you the numbers now, is the total online at any given time now.

Total Residents: 7,169,142
Logged In Last 60 Days: 1,637,324
Online Now: 33,205
US$ Spent Last 24h: $1,723,662
LindeX Activity Last 24h: $251,566

When I first got involved in Second Life, seldom was there more than 25,000 simultaneous users online. Now it seems to be close to 40,000 very often. That is HUGE!

Why Second Life Live Presentations are HORRIBLE!!! admin http://www.internetnextstep.com http://www.internetnextstep.com/b2evolution/blogs/Second_Life.php/second_life_live_presentations_are_horri 2007-05-25T21:47:19Z 2007-05-25T21:47:19Z http://www.internetnetnextstep.com

Some Second Life Live Presentations are simply abominably HORRIBLE! Is that even a word? Anyway, you get the picture! Why is this? Why would real world Business People ever hang around such terrible presentations?

The truth is unless they are like us and learning our way through the ins and outs of Second Life, THEY WOULDN'T!!

Now for the Good News!

We have attended quite a few Presentations ranging in topics from LSL Scripting to Product Demos, to General Second Life Help sessions.

The Verdict?

50% were terrible to the point of not just our Avatar going to sleep, but literally us going to sleep too!

50% were Wonderful, informative, succinct! We loved them!

Whats the Difference?

We have found 3 major differences between HORRIBLE or bad Live Presentations, and Amazing or Good Live Presentations in Second Life.

The first is people who have a PowerPoint Presentation to back up their topics vs. those who just wing it! Those who wing it seem to be disorganized, and not following anything in particular so it gets painfully boring to be there!

The second is scripted presentations. Typically the most enjoyable presentations appear to have been scripted. By scripted, we mean still live people standing on stage in front of their PowerPoint presentation, but instead of watching them type furiously what they want to say, they are obviously cutting and pasting from a Master Document. BRILLIANT! Everyone should do this!

The third is crowd control! The best presentations keep interactivity, but very limited interactivity with lots of cut and pasting of, "Can you keep your questions for the end, so we can get through the material please!" Then when the question and answer happens, again it appears the moderator has a cut and paste capability with many of the more common anticipated issues/questions.

HORRIBLE Live Presetations unfortunately overtake GREAT Live presentations in Second Life by about 4 to 1. Here is hoping these simple tips can help people obtain the REAL BUSINESS results they are looking for in Second Life.

Second Life Land Rental Business can make you Rich! admin http://www.internetnextstep.com http://www.internetnextstep.com/b2evolution/blogs/Second_Life.php/second_life_land_rental_business 2007-05-19T03:55:44Z 2007-05-19T03:55:44Z http://internetnextstep.com/second_life/index.htm

Second Life Land Rental business is the neatest thing I have ever seen! We bought up a bunch of land in Philudoria just for fun to learn about Second Life.

I decided to rent out some land. The first thing I needed was the scripts and objects to make that easy. I went with the HippoTech Networked Rental System and it is just great.

Get Your Free account by clicking Here

I am able to have one display screen of all my properties in one place where people can see pictures of all the properties I have on land. I also can control all the rental boxes from a central server rather than having to teleport to all the locations individually.

I simply put the land up, and then changed the descriptions of some land to include rental land and voila, I was in business. Now it seems all my land gets rented within a week of putting it up for rent.

The numbers for Land Rental in Second Life are stunning. You buy a piece of land for L$5000 and can rent it for L$225 a week. This means you can earn your entire purchase cost back in 5 to 6 months. Where else in the real world can you earn your entire capital cost for land purchase back in 5 to 6 months of Rent!

It is fun, it is easy. INS is going to do much more of this!

Now the numbers the numbers in Second Life.

Not sure what went on, but for almost a week Second Life didn't show an update to its numbers, but there are now and I am here to break it down for you!

Total Residents: 6,514,249
Logged In Last 60 Days: 1,739,539
Online Now: 29,952
US$ Spent Last 24h: $1,626,071
LindeX Activity Last 24h: $249,631

That is 273,658 since I last reported numbers before they stopped showing which is 8 days ago. So Second Life has averaged 34207 new residents PER DAY!

wow Wow Wow WoW!!

PowerPoint Slide Show Projector in Second Life admin http://www.internetnextstep.com http://www.internetnextstep.com/b2evolution/blogs/Second_Life.php/second_life_and_powerpoint_slide_show_pr 2007-05-16T19:16:17Z 2007-05-16T19:16:17Z http://internetnextstep.com

INS has launched is first Second Life Tool, a PowerPoint Slide show projector.

After searching and searching and purchasing every PowerPoint slide show projector I could find in Second Life, we finally gave up and made our own.

What I find in Second Life is that even though it is an amazing Virtual World with Real Life business applications that are out of this world, the quality of gizmos and gadgets in Second Life can often leave a lot to be desired.

I found about 10 PowerPoint Slide Show Projectors that were Just about what I needed, but not a single one that covered all the bases for a Real business trying to operate with some information dissemination in Second Life.

So INS built its own PowerPoint Slide Show Projector with all the features needed by Real Business in Second Life.

Simple to Use

The INS Second Life Presentation Tool has been built to be very configurable and Simple to use. You do not need to know anything about LSL scripting language to use it. you will simply use .jpgs created in your PowerPoint or other presentation software to power it.

Text Chat Feature

You can add chat text to each presentation slide so extra explanation for each slide can be delivered through the text chat channel.

This can be particularly handy as it allows you to have a version with your actual presentation script attached to each slide as if someone was doing the presentation live for the person.

This feature gives you the best possible results without going to the next step of getting involved in Streaming Video into Second Life which can be quite a chore, and adds streaming server expense.

Timed or Touch

You can decide which way you want to have your presentation run by the person viewing it.

The viewer can control the timing by way of touching the presentation to change slides, or you can set an interval in the configuration card to have the slides change on a timed basis.

NoteCard Giving

One thing INS finds not done very well in Second Life that we advise clients to be sure not to copy is not enough ties back to your Real Life Website or business.

This feature allows you to Select a slide in your presentation that you would like to trigger the delivery of a Notecard that you can configure with whatever Second Life or Real Life message you wish to be delivered to the viewer.

You could give them a special offer, or simply your Contact details in Second Life or Outside Second Life.

Real Life Website Link

To carry on with the concept of connecting IN WORLD (people within Second Life) with REAL LIFE or RL (People or things outside of Second Life) our Powerpoint Second Life Slide Show Presentation tool allows you to set a slide number that will have an offer to link to a Real Life website to be served to your presentation viewer.

Once this popup happens in Second Life the viewer has the opportunity to simply click Yes to the offer and be taken in a new browser window to your RL website.

So there you have it the INS PowerPoint Slide Projector in Second Life. All this Real World business functionality for only L$1249, you can get it at our mall in Philudoria 208/181/42/ or soon on SL Exchange.

Second Life and Cisco Systems, a fantastic article I came across I just had to share today. Cisco Systems has a few hundred employees in Second Life and even has their own Last Name!!

Cisco Systems regularly speaks with clients in Second Life and also do a lot of collaborating.

I love the explanation this author wrote about Second Life in his article about Cisco Systems, "Second Life is a tool for holding three-dimensional visual conversations. Just as WebEx allows you to share PowerPoints over the Internet, Second Life allows you to build something you can look at from all angles, with multiple people who can discuss the object in realtime."

37545 NEW members in 24 hours. I am told I am wrong and if you count the correct 24 hours it is a record day of over 40,000 new members. So for all the naysayers that say it is only 10% of the numbers posted, that is still 4000 NEW members in a Day!!! Wow that is 120,000 in a month, or 1,440,000 in a year!!! And that is if the 10% is accurate, what if it is 20%!!!

BC Business is a great magazine, and I am just very pleased they have Picked up the Second Life story for their business. Being that BC has a huge Electronic Arts campus, seems natural that Vancouver would be a Leading Edge place with some Early Adopters of Second Life like BC Business writes about.

Ok the numbers, maybe the got a bump the last few days due to the BC Business article, what do you think? 27,122 new Second Life members in the last 24 hours or so!

Second Life MLM? admin http://www.internetnextstep.com http://www.internetnextstep.com/b2evolution/blogs/Second_Life.php/second_life_mlm_now_in_existence 2007-05-08T06:35:17Z 2007-05-08T06:35:17Z http://www.internetnetnextstep.com

Well it was bound to happen.

An MLM Company has added a product package to support Second Life. You can't keep something this hot in a box for long when it can benefit MLM and the business community at large so much.

It looks a little bit rough right now, but pretty cool idea. I am guessing it will come together over a little time.

Their whole point is to support MLM distributors and Small or Medium business owners to build their own businesses with the use of their promotional items and know how. They must see what I see!

What has happened is this existing MLM company has added in a product package that benefits any company, or person in MLM that wants to get involved with a presence in Second Life.

They also have all their own products like FREE BlackBerry Certificates and FREE XM Radio offers along with travel incentives.

You can check it out see if it can save you some money or time in setting up your own Second Life Presence at:

55 Hours since our last blog entry and 69,508 new residents! So lets see, that is 30,220 per day!!

The growth astounds me every time. The opportunity to be a part of the next rendition of the internet is simply exciting.

We are going wild with ideas on how to help the business community at large stake their claim in this wilderness called Second Life.
