There are all kinds of directories on the internet. Lots of them are free, and some of them charge you for an advertisement. Either way, they can do two things for you. The first is drive targeted traffic to your site. The second is increase your link popularity for search engine positioning.

To find directories, you can try typing in the keywords that you think people type in to get to your type of business or opportunity on the web into a search engine. Often in the list that comes up you will find a directory or two.

As you do this, scan through the top few pages of results and see if you can spy any commercial type of associations or advertising agencies. Often these type of people have a members directory, or a links page where you can get your link posted for free.

They do this as a service to their website members, and to make themselves appear to have a large audience. Whether these are good reasons or not, to you, you want your link there as they are websites that are ranked in the search engine which their link to you will count for your link popularity. This is important.

For example if you own a restaurant. There are tons of people and companies that seem to offer free listings in their web pages for restaurants of all types.

Amazing, and they exist for almost every industry.

Be careful, this can shake your belief because you will run across HUNDREDS or other Business Opportunities. Don't fall victim to the Grass is Greener philosopy!!

Also, of course, you can do the pay option. This is kind of like classified advertising and you need to be sure you have prepared a Good Headline and Ad copy so you don't waste your money.

Now remember, there are also often offline books and directories that you can get a free listing in and often you can get your URL in as well. Check out with your local trade associations and such to see what is out there in the offline world as well.
