Upline Travel Stories - Uma Sackett and Trent Thurston

It's my pleasure this month to turn the First Word over to our Director of Sales, Trent Thurston, who's been to more Network Marketing events than probably anyone in Upline's history. In the past 16 months alone, he's been to 26 states at least once, Florida 14 times, Texas ten, and Arizona six. Here, he shares a few of his experiences. -- UO

"I have gone from being a guy who was scared of Network Marketing to a guy whose house looks like a shrine to MLM. On the top of my refrigerator there are about 65 nutritional products from over 25 different companies. There are more personal care products in my bathroom than in a Manhattan salon. . . let's just say that I have embraced the world of Network Marketing. Over the past 16 months I have changed literally hundreds of people's minds about Network Marketing-- friends from growing up, family members, people on airplanes, anyone who has a set of ears and will listen to me. At Upline, we believe it's our duty to let folks know that Network Marketing works. I'm out there doing what I can to make your efforts a little easier. It might happen that you'll sign up someone I converted! For fun, here are just a few of the dozens of funny things that have happened to me during my travels.

"A couple of months ago I was on a flight from Phoenix to Salt Lake City. In the seat in front of me were two guys, one reading an article by John Fogg out of Success magazine aloud at high volume. When he finished, he stood up and asked everyone on the plane if they had any questions. I broke the awkward silence by telling them that John Fogg was my boss. The guy came over, hugged me and asked if I could get him John's autograph. The woman next to me asked if MLM was a pyramid scheme and the guy across the aisle stuck out his hand and said he was the chief legal council for a huge Networking company based in Phoenix. I asked him to tell the lady how MLM was perfectly legal. On the same flight, I noticed the CEO of another MLM company -- in first class, of course. Small world.

"The next time I was in the Phoenix airport, I was renting a car and heading to the Phoenician in Scottsdale when, as I finished the paperwork, I noticed that the gentleman checking us out was reading Your First Year in Network Marketing. He had just signed up with a nutritional company and was trying to learn all he could to succeed faster.

"Just last week I was at the bank here in Charlottesville with my housemate and fellow Upline employee, Brad. The teller looked at Brad's check and asked "What is MLM Publishing?" Brad said that he was just the computer dork, and that she needed to ask me to explain. She told me she was looking for an opportunity. I ran back to the office, grabbed a couple past issues of Upline and the first two issues of Lifestyles and told her to get to work reading about our industry. The last time I saw her, she thanked me profusely and said she was almost ready to join a company!

"Last month I was at the Swan Hotel in Orlando when a gentleman approached me and said, "Hey, you're Trent from Upline, aren't you?" I said yes and he told me how much he appreciated what we did for him and how he got into MLM. This guy was none other than George "The Animal" Steel formerly of the World Wrestling Federation. Ten minutes later, a gentleman looked at my badge, walked right up to me and said, "I'm ready to sign up for this MLM thing and I can't seem to find anyone to help me do it." I must be on candid camera, I thought! But the guy was for real. The crazy thing was that even though I was at a convention, there was no one from the company in sight! The guy was so excited that I gave him the email address of one of our Lifers who's a good buddy of mine. That reminds me, I need to call him and see if he has him signed up!"
